We're back in the US of A, and have been for awhile. But there's still quite a bit we haven't shared from our trip, particularly our last 3.5 weeks in Europe. So we're working on that now, slowly but surely, and in chronological order. Believe it or not, we also have some posts left from Asia. But we're keeping things as organized as possible - so feel free to browse, and/or use our tags to help you find what you need. Whether you're planning a trip of your own, daydreaming of distant lands, or living vicariously through us - relax, enjoy, and happy reading!!

PS If you're looking for the details of our road trip across the US, you'll find them on our Tumblr.

Sunscreen Tips for New Zealand

We now interrupt your regularly scheduled daily activities posts to bring you a few sunscreen tips.  Trust me - I was raised as a sunscreen-er, and these were still hard-won lessons, learned under the strong New Zealand sunshine.  So perk up your ears and take note:

1. (Rookie Mistake): Do NOT apply your sunscreen until you decided DEFINITIVELY what shirt you'll be wearing that day.  A last minute change in plans (coupled with a 1.5 hour long trail run) will inevitably result in some crispy shoulder-tops, while the rest of you stays your usual shade.

2. (Paddling Lessons): Note that wearing both a cap AND sunglasses results in a slight downturn in your upper ear.  If you're a newbie out paddling a kayak wearing this gear, you will probably be looking down.  This tilt in your head, coupled with a cloudless day and no shade in the middle of the sound, will result in a back-of-ear sunburn.  I can promise you that this is painful.

3. (Learned The Easy Way): Info imparted from our guides this morning - When hiking a glacier (which is a totally awesome thing to do), apply sunscreen under your nose and under your chin, to protect from sun glare off the snow and ice.  I knew we forked over money for that tour for a very good reason.  Sound advice, guides!
