I commented to Kee-Min yesterday that we were smarter than we knew at the time by not planning a trip to Europe for our honeymoon. Our wedding was a pretty relaxed affair, and we had plenty of help from family and friends. Still, by the end of the weekend, we were more than ready to crash for four days at a resort in Cancun for food and sun.
Here, in Europe, I'm pretty sure that every city is jam-packed with historical sites, museums, galleries, churches, castles, art - and we are keeping a pretty tight schedule in order to maximize our time. If we were trying to use this as a honeymoon or a one week vacation from work, we probably would have started exhausted and overloaded. Then, we'd either be sleeping and "wasting" our room in a city with so much to offer, or we would force ourselves to get out to do & see, and return from vacation with overflowing, exhausted brains and bodies.
[That being said, I know plenty of people who honeymoon or vacation happily in Europe. I'm just sharing what our experience has been, and what we've learned about planning for future holidays.]
What are we doing? I, for one, am a sucker for any "A Day In The Life Of..." posts, so here's what I did yesterday:
6:30 - Wake up, FB/email check, map check, plan run route
7:15 - Run
8:15 - Shower, etc.
9:00 - Breakfast
10:00 - Tour of "Underground Rome" [Awesome. Details to come.]
1:30 - Gelato Break
2:00 - Sun selves on museum steps
2:15 - Capitoline Museum
5:15 - Coffee Break
5:45 - More Capitoline Museum
7:45 - Strategic dinner planning session (research, map checks, etc.) in coatroom of museum
7:55 - Turned away at first choice restaurant (full)
8:00 - Sit for dinner at second choice restaurant (which ended up being full of WIN)
10:30 - Leave restaurant
10:50 - Arrive home
11:00 - Email/FB
11:30 - Double check hours, maps, etc. for sightseeing in the AM
11:45 - Confirm hotel, directions, plans for arrival in Naples the next evening
12:00 - Boggle
12:30 - Bed.
And now, it's Sunday morning and we're doing it all again. Last day in Rome, off to Naples tonight. Cheers!
